Our “Writing Words” program is designed to focus on high frequency writing words that are often misspelled in writing. By the end of the school year, there
are 80 common words that the third
graders are expected to spell correctly in their writing.
At the
beginning of each month, your child will receive a list of that month’s
“Writing Words.” These words will
be posted on the wall in the classroom, and the children are expected to learn
how to spell these words correctly by the end of the month. We will do some practice here at
school, but they will also need to study these words at home. Each month, there may be some homonyms
on the list like there, their, and they’re. In addition to knowing how to spell these words, they will
be expected to know when to use the
appropriate one. At the end of the
month, they will take a test on these words. Once they have been tested on these words, they will be held
accountable for spelling them correctly in their writing for the rest of the
school year.
