To celebrate 13 days left of school, the students were presented with a real world problem to solve. Given 7 rolls of Bubble Tape, each containing 6 feet of gum, how many feet and inches would 20 students receive if it was divided up equally? Students were required to calculate the exact amount of gum they would get prior to receiving any. They were able to determine that 7 rolls with 6 feet of gum in each would allow each student to have 2 feet 1 inch of gum. Now that was a lot of chewing throughout the day!
The students were so responsible with their gum chewing. They didn't need reminders about disposing of it prior to leaving the classroom and several commented on how it helped them stay focused during writing!
