Chicago Field Trip

Although the weather didn't fully cooperate for us we had a great time on our Chicago Architectural Boat Tour! The students learned a lot about the history and architecture of our great city and were able to share some of their knowledge as well! The kids were encouraged to document our trip by taking photographs. I was shocked when I discovered that over 300 pictures were taken today! When you have a few minutes, please take a look at the wonderful sights we saw on our trip today.

Chicago's Migration

During reading groups of students read about different groups of immigrants and their impact on Chicago's culture. They then created a presentation to teach their classmates what they had learned.

Check out this Mega-Multiplication!

Using the lattice method, the students worked as a team to solve this complicated multiplication problem. I'm very impressed!

Julia's Adventures with Flipper

My Adventures with Flipper and Friends
By: Julia

When I came from school I brought Flipper into my room. Flipper climbed onto my desk and watched me do homework, after a couple of minutes he got bored and he started taking pens out of the cup, then he took the beads off the pipe-cleaner-reindeer that Maya made for me. When I cleaned the mess that he made, he helped me do my math homework. Flipper was very good at math.{He must have paid attention during math classes in school.}When I finished my homework Flipper told me that he thought my night-light/radio was interesting, so he pushed the that turns the light on and off, dim and bright. Then Flipper found out how to get the C.D. out of the radio, when he got the C.D. out of the radio he messed around with it and made some scratch marks on it, with his feet. Flipper got hungry so, I took him downstairs to the kitchen. Flipper said that he wanted fish, but... I told him that we did not have any fish but, I could give him a snow-cone later if he wanted and some soup right now. After he ate, I showed him my fish. He really liked Spot and all the fish including Spot, liked Flipper. {NOT Marical, she was to worried about getting eaten.} Flipper enjoyed listening to me while I played the piano. {But I think he liked my speed-keeper better, because he played with it a lot.} Then Flipper decided to have an adventure in the bathroom. He hopped onto the sink and looked at the tooth brushes, then he moved the Legos around,{That my brother left behind.} and turned the water on and off. Later I took Flipper to my hip-hop class, he sat on some bars and watched Ria and me. At bedtime I gave my red blanket, that I used to sleep with, to Flipper so he had some thing to snuggle with. On Saturday I went to polish school with Flipper. He didn’t understand much, other than the boys that chatted in English during class. After I finished my polish school homework, I had to get ready for my birthday party. Flipper had to stay at home because he was to young. On Sunday I went to Adrian’s birthday party which was at Extreme Trampolines. This time Flipper came and watched the kids do flips, back turns, and jump really high. Later we had to go to church. After church was over my family, Flipper, and my friends with their parents went to the priest’s house for a meeting. My friends and I played out side in the back yard, which was like paradise! We adventured the bushes and the field, then we adventured the plants and bushes that were in-front of the house. I had so much fun I didn’t want to leave, and if I had to leave l would want to come back again! When it was time to go  I said bye to my friends and then I hopped into the car, Flipper looked at the pictures in the book that I was reading.

Danny's Adventures with Little Blue

Little Blue’s Adventure

When we got to our house we put Little Blue down to get a snack, and when we came out Little Blue was somehow on the fan. After that Little Blue went for a bath and he was greeting people on the door nob. After we did all of that he helped my sister pack up for Taft. On Tuesday we played ninja and he won because of his floppy and long arms.
