Spreading Cheer and Support with Snowflakes

Today the students helped spread holiday cheer by creating snowflakes!

Midwest Tour

The students concluded studying the Midwest today by boarding a train and touring the twelve Midwestern states. Along the way, students that researched each of the states served as tour guides. They provided many interesting and important facts about their states. Posted below is a link (the movie file is still exporting, so this should be available soon) to the movie file for our tour and photographs of the students on the train. It was a fun experience for all!

Assembly Line

After learning about Henry Ford's assembly line, we experimented with our very own bookmark-making assembly line. The students evaluated the process and compared advantages and disadvantages of creating the bookmarks using an assembly line compared to constructing them independently.

Oliver's Adventures with Little Blue

My Amazing Adventures With Little Blue!

On Saturday Little Blue and I went outside with my brother. We played catch. After that we played some video games. Little Blue was really good. Then it was time to eat. Little Blue ate so much his stomach hurt. After we ate we played some more video games. Then we ate dinner. We had cereal. Then it was time to go to bed.

On Sunday I woke up and didn’t see Little Blue.
And then I saw the most terrifying thing. My dog stole Little Blue! I quickly ran to get Little Blue. When I got him Little Blue and I ate some cereal. He again ate the most. We went and played some video games after we ate. We played video games until lunch. Little Blue beat me. Little Blue again ate the most. Then we went outside with my brother. It got dark and we ate dinner, and Little Blue ate the most. Then it was time to go to bed.

Victoria's Adventures with Swinger

Swinger and Me!

When I came home with Swinger I gave him a tour of the house and introduced him to my family. Then at 6 pm I went to Paige’s house on a sleepover party with Swinger, he had a crush on Sunny, Kayleigh’s stuffed animal. We played many games, danced to music and watched Night at the Museum last but Swinger was really scared when the creatures turned to life. We even stayed up really late. Then on Saturday Swinger went to Polish School with me. He learned new Polish words and about Christmas in Poland. On Sunday Swinger and I woke up at 12:30 pm. We ate a big breakfast and later we started decorating the Christmas tree. At night he took a bath in the washing machine and then I read him a bedtime story and we went to sleep. My family and I will really miss Swinger a lot!

Paige's Personal Narrative

The students recently completed their personal narratives in writing. They were given the opportunity to share their stories with their classmates. The students loved how animated one student was while sharing her personal narrative and decided that it should be featured on our blog. Enjoy Paige's presentation of The Best Story Ever.

December Crandall Chronicle

Our Strange Clock

Our classroom clock has a unique characteristic. For some unknown reason our clock freezes for about a minute at 58 minutes after the hour randomly throughout the day. The minute hand then races to catch up to the current time. For over a month the students have been collecting data and documenting the times that we have observed the clock freezing. We spent some time during math on Friday to graph our data and analyze our findings. Below are photos of the students working to complete their graphs along with pictures of the completed graphs.

Isobel's Adventures with Swinger

My Time with Swinger

On Friday after school, I went to Macy Goodman’s house to play. Macy is in Mrs. Berg’s class. We played with American Girl Dolls and Swinger was the pet monkey.

On Saturday, Katie Neal (she is in Mrs. Berg’s class too) came over to play. Katie and I made a “preview” for our web show “Iizzatie.” Swinger played as the little ballerina’s stuffed monkey; the stuffed monkey went everywhere with her. The little ballerina thought the old man’s antlers were devil ears. Katie and I dressed up in costumes and acted out skits.

On Sunday, I took Swinger with me to Woodfield Mall to get my ears pierced. Swinger wanted to get his ears pierced too, but I told him he wasn’t old enough. So he sat on my lap and Macy G’s lap, and we got our ears pierced. We had dinner too at the Cheesecake Factory; he had bread for dinner and cheesecake for dinner. When Swinger got home Sunday evening, he dove into the washing machine for a bath. He thought it was quite nice. Swinger was really tired after his long, busy weekend.

How many minutes old are you?

During math on Monday students practiced reading and saying large numbers by calculating their age in minutes and even seconds. Once students determined how many minutes old they were on their last birthday, they added the additional minutes from the leap years that occurred within the past eight years.

I gave the students an additional challenge to calculate how old my grandpa is in minutes. They eagerly calculated that he was 48,880,800 minutes or 2,932,848,000 seconds old!
